3 Signs Your Steel Barn Needs Welding Reinforcement

You use your steel barn for a variety of things: as a storage unit, for animal housing and even to keep feed dry and protected against the elements. While steel can last for many decades, it's not entirely indestructible.

Your welder can help repair your steel barn so it is stronger than ever and able to last for many years. Here are three signs your steel barn is in need of reinforcing and how your welder can make the structure more reliable against the elements.

Your Barn Is Leaking

Bolts can come loose or siding can get torn on your metal barn due to excess use or a particularly bad storm, and it can begin leaking as a result. A barn can also leak due to poor original construction or because it is pre-fabricated and simply placed on an existing concrete foundation. A leaking barn is cause for concern, as moisture can cause mildew or mold to grow and can allow machinery to get rusty.

Your welder can patch leaking areas with a portable welding tool and sheets of steel. They can also use fresh steel to replace components that are torn away or bent, welding each bead into perfect place to help prevent leaks in the future.

Your Barn Is Leaning

It's more common for wooden barns to lean than metal ones, but a steel barn can still lean due to excess weight on one side or a failing support beam. Your welder can help determine what is causing your barn to lean in the first place, then they can affix new or additional support beams to help right your barn so it stands correctly.

Once your barn has been righted, your welder will want to inspect the whole barn for steel siding and other connecting components that may have come loose or shifted while the barn was being repaired. Any misaligned metal components can be welded securely for added durability and protection or can be replaced if they are bent or torn.

Your Barn Has Condensation

Similar to a leaking barn, a steel barn that has condensation in its interior can pose a real problem. Unfortunately, condensation is a common annoyance with steel buildings, but it can be largely fixed by properly insulating the structure.

Your welder can assist in helping to make your structure more solid and less prone to condensation, as the largest cause for moisture problems with steel buildings is poor construction. A welder will inspect the entire structure to look for weak points, then create a custom plan for your barn to reinforce weakened structures and seal areas where condensation is known to pool.

To give your welder a good idea of how bad your moisture problem is in your barn, have them arrive in the early morning or late in the evening. Condensation occurs when temperatures drop below a water's dew point, so these are the times your steel barn is most likely to appear to be sweating.

Your steel barn should last for many years if it is made of quality metal and constructed properly. Even the best barns, however, need professional assistance to keep them in durable condition. Your welder can help you keep your barn standing strong so you can continue to use its space confidently.

Make a note of all the concerns you have about your steel barn that you can share with your welder. Your welder will be able to come up with a plan of action to help reinforce and make your barn stronger than ever.
